Precision CNC Grinding Services – Surface, Cylindrical, Centerless

Date:2026-07-04Article editor:Starting Point PrecisionViews:164

Precision grinding is a cornerstone of modern manufacturing, enabling the production of components with tight tolerances and superior surface finishes. At Start Precision, we offer comprehensive CNC grinding services, specializing in surface, cylindrical, and centerless grinding to meet the most demanding specifications across various industries.

Core Grinding Processes

Our expertise covers three primary processes:

    1. Surface Grinding: Achieves high flatness, smooth finishes, and precise parallelism on workpieces. Used for dies, jigs, and machine bases.

    2. Cylindrical Grinding: Perfects the external and internal diameters of shafts, pins, and bushings, ensuring concentricity and roundness.

    3. Centerless Grinding: Excels in high-speed production of cylindrical parts without a center or chuck, ideal for small-diameter, long parts like rollers and bearings.

Advanced Grinding Equipment & Parameters

Our capabilities are built on a foundation of high-quality machinery. Key equipment includes:

    ●  Surface Grinding: We utilize China-Winner JS-614 and MICCO-350 grinders for achieving flat, fine surfaces with precise dimensions.

◇ Typical Parameter (JS-614): Table Size 150x350mm, Grinding Wheel Size Φ180x13xΦ31.75mm, Spindle Motor 1.1kW.

●  Cylindrical Grinding: Our Taiwan-China Glory GU32-60NC handles external and internal cylindrical grinding.

◇ Typical Parameter (GU32-60NC): Swing Over Table Φ320mm, Distance Between Centers 600mm, Wheel Spindle Speed 1650 rpm.

    ●  Centerless Grinding: For high-volume production, we employ Taiwan-China Glory 12C centerless grinders, ideal for through-feed and in-feed grinding.

◇ Typical Parameter (12C): Grinding Wheel Size Φ305x150xΦ120mm, Regulating Wheel Size Φ205x150xΦ90mm.

Application Case Study: Precision Shaft Manufacturing

A leading automotive supplier required 5000 hardened steel shafts (Ø10mm x 150mm) with a diameter tolerance of ±2 microns and a surface finish of Ra 0.4. By utilizing our Glory 12C centerless grinder in a through-feed setup, we achieved:

    ●  Tolerance: Maintained within ±1.5 microns.

    ●  Surface Finish: Consistently achieved Ra 0.35.

    ●  Cycle Time: Reduced by 30% compared to traditional cylindrical grinding, ensuring on-time delivery.

This capability is part of our broader precision machining solutions, including our EDM services for intricate hole and cavity work.

Conclusion

Whether you require the flatness of surface grinding, the concentricity of cylindrical grinding, or the efficiency of centerless grinding, our advanced CNC facilities and skilled engineers deliver consistent, high-quality results. For complex components that combine grinding with other processes, our integrated approach, detailed on our services overview page, ensures seamless production.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q1: What materials can be processed with CNC grinding?
We grind a wide range of materials, including hardened tool steels, stainless steel, aluminum, brass, ceramics, and exotic alloys like Inconel.

Q2: How do I choose between cylindrical and centerless grinding?
Cylindrical grinding is best for parts with heads, shoulders, or multiple diameters that need centering. Centerless grinding is more efficient for long, straight, simple cylindrical parts without features requiring a center.

Q3: What surface roughness can you achieve?
Typical surface finishes range from Ra 0.2 to Ra 0.8, depending on the material and process. Tighter finishes down to Ra 0.1 are possible for specific applications.

Q4: Can you handle both prototype and high-volume orders?
Yes, our flexible setup allows for efficient prototyping and scalable production runs. Our team can discuss the best approach for your project volume.

Q5: Do you provide quality certification with parts?
Absolutely. All parts come with a full inspection report, including CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) data, ensuring compliance with your specified tolerances.
